  When do I get paid?
Checks are issued by The Nebraska Medical Center every other Friday. You can elect to have your paychecks electronically deposited to your bank account. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for Direct Deposit to ensure your paycheck is received every other Friday. See the Human Resources department for the appropriate form. Direct deposit pay slips can be picked up in the Human Resource department on payday. If you do not pick up the slip before the afternoon, it will be mailed out to your home. **Please let Human Resources know immediately if there is a change in your address, phone number, or bank information.

How many hours can I work?
Students are limited on the amount of hours they may work. Students who have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) funds are limited to the amount awarded in FWS on their most recent award letter. This amount may or may not be fully utilized depending on the amount of hours the student works throughout the academic year. Students who have not been awarded FWS are limited to $1,000 per semester. Most students will be able to work approximately 7-10 hours per week during the academic year. Some supervisors may require more hours in one week as opposed to other weeks depending on the size of a particular project they may need you to work on. A student must never exceed 20 hours in any given pay period, no matter what the situation may be.

  Can I get overtime?
Students are not permitted to work more than 8 hours a day, or more than 20 hours a pay period, and therefore will not be paid overtime wages.

  Can I study while working?
Generally, the answer is no. Your supervisor may make an occasional exception to this if all your work has been completed, and you remain available to handle the basic tasks of your job (assist students, answer phone calls, etc). Not all jobs are structured so that studying is possible.

Can I take a break during my scheduled hours?
Yes, all employees are allowed to take a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break, if they are scheduled to work a 6 hour or longer shift. If an employee is scheduled to work a 4 hour shift, they are entitled to a 15 minute paid break in the middle of that work shift.

What happens if I forget to clock in or out?
Please contact Human Resources at 402.552.3609 or e-mail bojan@clarksoncollege.edu immediately. If you do not notify Human Resources, it could result in your paycheck being short on hours and pay.

What should I do if I am injured on the job?
All on-the-job accidents must be reported to your supervisor immediately, whether or not you seek medical attention. Regardless of how minor you may think the injury is, an accident report form must be completed. If your supervisor does not have the proper form, or is unaware of the proper procedure, please contact the Human Resources office immediately at 402.552.3609.

My supervisor occasionally needs to leave campus while I am working. In an emergency, whom do I report to?
Your supervisor should "appoint" a temporary supervisor who is a regular contact employee of the College (not another student) any time that they are not physically present on campus and you are working. The temporary supervisor should be informed whenever they are responsible for you, and you should know who they are and how to contact them. Student employees are not authorized to open or close facilities and are not issued keys.

Do I have to do new hiring paperwork every semester?
No. New paperwork is only required at the beginning of each academic year. You may work in your position for as long as you are enrolled in 6 or more credit hours and your work is satisfactory; or until the project is completed; or until funding is no longer available.

What happens if I get a job with The Nebraska Medical Center?
Students may elect to work as a student employee at Clarkson College or may choose to take a position at The Nebraska Medical Center, but they may not do both. Please contact Human Resources at 552-3609 or e-mail bojan@clarksoncollege.edu immediately to discontinue your student employment position.

  Can my employment be terminated?
Yes, your employment with the College may be terminated with or without cause. This will make you ineligible for rehire with Clarkson College and The Nebraska Medical Center.
