"It was August, 1965. My parents came to graduation
and I bought my first car, a '65 avocado green convertible Mustang. Now
let me think, what was more exciting to a young girl with the world at
her feet. Now in 2008, the Mustang is long gone, but my nursing career
has spanned more than four decades. And what a career it has been and I
am thankful for the education I received at Clarkson and for the support from
my family.
In 1988, at the 100-year event, I received the
Distinguished Alumna Award. I came back to Clarkson and spoke at the
meeting, enjoyed lots of festivities. That was a real treat for me."

"One of my Clarkson memories from the class of '67 are
that we got all the food we wanted at breakfast, lunch and dinner because it
was included in our tuition. The hospital cafeteria had excellent
chow. You could go back again for seconds and unlimited
everything. I came from a family where my mother didn't enjoy cooking,
and I was really happy with the wonderful meals and desserts! It is
amazing that I remained so slim during training."

Rita DeSciscio VanFleet, Class of 1967

"When my class entered the school in the fall of 1964 we
took our basic science classes at UNO (called OU at that time). Since it
was off campus, we had to find transportation. Being poor students, we
would call a cab and then literally stuff as many of us in it as we could to
save on the fare. We had some great times on those trips back and forth
to the campus.
Another vivid memory is of our rotation at Engelside (the
psych hospital in Hastings). It covered several acres and had a massive
underground tunnel system. The tunnel system was quite an adventure to
navigate and the things encountered in them were 'unique'."
