Clarkson College was founded in 1888 and has a long
tradition of academic excellence. For
many years the College offered only nursing degrees, beginning with granting
diplomas to the present day Baccalaureate and Masters Degrees. In 1991 the College name was changed
(formerly Bishop Clarkson College of Nursing) and the Radiologic Technology
program was added to the degrees offered at the College. Two years later, the Medical Imaging program
was launched allowing students to complete their Baccalaureate Degree.
In June 2002, the Director of Medical Imaging became
interested in having an honor society in Radiologic and Imaging Sciences that
would recognize those who had demonstrated superior academic performance and
who had distinguished themselves as clinical scholars and leaders. A search
began to find an honor society that would exemplify those selected
individuals. Lambda Nu Honor Society
was identified, and after long research appeared to meet the needs of the
College. The College Academic Deans and
Directors voted to approve the honor society in January 2003. Bylaws were drafted, which were accepted by
the Honor Society and the Chapter was accepted on March 6, 2003.
Clarkson College chose Delta as its chapter name. In the Greek alphabet Delta means strength,
power, ability, and acting with precision.
These characteristics were felt to represent the qualities seen in
Clarkson College students and graduates.
The first induction ceremony was held in Fall 2003 with 34 students and
2 faculty members inducted at the meeting.
Officers were also elected for President, Vice-President, Secretary and
Treasurer.
Today the Delta Chapter continues to grow in
membership. Each year students may be
inducted that have a 3.2 GPA and have been enrolled in the RT or MI programs
for a minimum of two semesters. The
society also researches methods of community service and plans a yearly outing
for the members.
