Purpose
The program
is designed to prepare graduates for additional career opportunities and
advancement within the health care informatics profession.
Mission
The
program for the Bachelor of Science in Health Care Business with a major in
Informatics provides a learning environment that encompasses computer
information technology and applies it to the medical field. The program is
designed to develop knowledge, leadership and technical skills so that
individuals can advance in business and health care environments. The PACS
certificate courses compliment the Bachelor degree coursework.
Program Outcomes
Upon
completion of the program, the student will be able to:
·
demonstrate
professional, responsible and technical abilities as business professional for
health care agencies, both in traditional and non-traditional settings.
·
demonstrate
professional verbal and written communication skills when interacting with
colleagues, and health care providers and the public.
·
examine
theoretical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to be prepared for a
professional business informatics position in the health care setting.
·
identify
system problems when dealing with an informatics system based on theories
learned in the curriculum and externship experiences.
·
practice
cultural, economic, ethical, legal and professional standards along with
responsible use of resource utilization in an informatics administrator or
management role.
Philosophy
The
overall success of the graduate is based on progressive integration of the
curriculum and is followed with practical experience through the Mission of the
College. Selection of coursework is based on the experience and background of
the individual to ensure students can apply the knowledge that they may already
have, and build on that foundation if so desired. Traditional students, as well
as distance students, can achieve this business knowledge through an
interactive and motivational on-line learning environment.
