A Higher Degree of Experience 

Radiologic technologists (RTs) provide diagnostic services for patients using high-tech medical imaging equipment. Medical images produced by radiographers are then sent to physicians for diagnostic interpretation. RTs are employed by hospitals, imaging facilities, urgent care clinics, private physician offices and other health care facilities. There are also opportunities in industry, civil service, public health care services and international health care organiza­tions. Opportunities abound in management and in education at the collegiate level for those appropriately prepared. 

  

A degree in radiologic technology continues to hold great prospects in the job market as labor statistics indicate, by 2010, there will be a shortage of 110,000 technologists because of the retiring baby boomers. And, according to the ASRT 2007 Wage and Salary Survey, salary increases for those technologists possessing a baccalaureate degree. 

  

As a Radiologic Technologist (RT) student, you will discover the art of providing diagnostic services to patients using high-tech imaging equipment. Upon completion of the RT program students graduate with an Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Technology. 

  

Graduates of the program will be able to sit for the national certification examina­tion in radiography administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technolo­gists (ARRT). After successful completion of this examination, the individual will be a Certified Radiologic Technologist, R.T.(R). In addition, some states may require licensure to practice. 

  

Those students wishing to work towards their baccalaureate degree can choose to enter the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging. Students have the opportunity to work toward their Associate and Bachelor degree simultaneously. We call this the Dual Degree option. Those students who start the RT program with an Associate's degree can earn both an RT and an MI degree in two years.

A Higher Degree of Association 

The pre-professional organization for students enrolled in radiography or medical imaging programs at Clarkson College is the Clarkson Radiography Student Association. This organization encourages student involvement in professional activities and promotes professional development at local, regional, and national levels.
