Mission
The Picture Archiving and
Communication Systems (PACS) program is designed to enhance the graduate's
ability to succeed in today's informatics and radiology environments. The
program focuses on both the technical and practical aspects of a PACS work
environment. The program compliments a Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging
degree for professionals with a Radiology background or a Bachelor of Science
in Health Care Business Informatics for professionals with computer or IT
experience.
Philosophy
The overall success of the
graduate is based on progressive integration of the curriculum and is followed
with practical experience through externship experiences. Selection of coursework is based on the
experience and background of the individual to ensure students can apply the
knowledge with an externship in a related PACS environment. Traditional
students, as well as distance students, can achieve this business knowledge
through an interactive and motivational on-line learning environment.
Outcomes
Clarkson College
recognizes the structural changes which have evolved in the health care
informatics industry. Over the next decade, the way that patient care is
delivered will continue to be forever changed due to digital imaging and PACS.
Radiology and Informatics professionals working within the industry will be
required to adjust to these environmental changes. Those entering the
profession will be expected to possess new skills and talents to be efficient
employees. Clarkson College has developed a PACS certificate for professionals
interested in advancing their career. Upon completion of the certificate plan,
the student will be able to:
· demonstrate professional, responsible and technical
abilities as a PACS Administrator for health care agencies, both in traditional
and non-traditional settings.
· create a solid foundation of knowledge for
implementing a PACS system to assume the complex role of an administrator.
· examine theoretical knowledge and analytical
abilities necessary to be prepared for a PACS position in the health care
setting.
· identify system problems when dealing with a PACS
system based on theories learned in the curriculum and externship experiences.
· practice cultural, economic, ethical, legal and
professional standards along with responsible use of resource utilization in an
administrator or management role.
