Health Information Management professionals are experts in managing patient health information and medical records, administering computer information systems and coding the diagnosis and procedures for heath care services provided to patients. Start by completing the HIM Foundation courses needed to prepare for a job in a physicians office. Next, work toward an HIM Certificate in preparation for advancement in your career. Finally, earn an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management by completing the required courses and be eligible to take a national certification exam.
