Purpose
The program is designed to
prepare graduates for additional career opportunities and advancement within
the health care informatics profession.
Mission
The program for the
Bachelor of Science in Health Care Business with a major in Informatics
provides a learning environment that encompasses computer information
technology and applies it to the medical field. The program is designed to
develop knowledge, leadership and technical skills so that individuals can
advance in business and health care environments. The PACS certificate courses
compliment the Bachelor degree coursework.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the
program, the student will be able to:
· demonstrate professional, responsible and technical
abilities as business professional for health care agencies, both in
traditional and non-traditional settings.
· demonstrate professional verbal and written
communication skills when interacting with colleagues, and health care
providers and the public.
· examine theoretical knowledge and analytical
abilities necessary to be prepared for a professional business informatics
position in the health care setting.
· identify system problems when dealing with an
informatics system based on theories learned in the curriculum and externship
experiences.
· practice cultural, economic, ethical, legal and
professional standards along with responsible use of resource utilization in an
informatics administrator or management role.
Philosophy
The overall success of the
graduate is based on progressive integration of the curriculum and is followed
with practical experience through the Mission of the College. Selection of
coursework is based on the experience and background of the individual to
ensure students can apply the knowledge that they may already have, and build
on that foundation if so desired. Traditional students, as well as distance
students, can achieve this business knowledge through an interactive and
motivational on-line learning environment.
