Admission Criteria and Process

Admission Criteria 

Criteria for admission into Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Nurse Anesthesia program include: 

·         Provide proof for fulfillment of the legal requirements to practice professional nursing (RN) in Nebraska or another state. 

·         Possess a Bachelor's degree with a major in nursing from a program accredited by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing-Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (AACN CCNE) or possess a Bachelor's degree in a bio-medical science. 

·         Attain an undergraduate grade-point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.0 scale, which demonstrates ability to do graduate work. 

·         Complete at least one year of recent full-time critical care nursing experience (post-ADN or post-BSN) as an RN prior to application to the program. Acceptable critical care nursing experience as an RN post-degree includes: 

·         Intensive Care Unit (ICU) 

·         Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) 

·         Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) 

·         Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) 

·         Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) 

·         Cardiac Care Unit (CCU). 

·         Satisfactory completion of all nursing course prerequisites at the junior college or university level. 

·         International applicants must obtain a Nebraska Registered Nurse license prior to program enrollment. 

·         Mastered levels of computer competency must be achieved in preparation for successful navigation of the MSN program. 

·         Demonstrated ability in science and mathematics with a letter grade of C or better for courses containing the following areas of concentration completed at the collegiate level. The basic sciences course prerequisite criteria include:    

·         Physiology 

·         Anatomy 

·         Pathophysiology  

·         Physical assessment 

·         Pharmacology 

·         Microbiology 

·         Inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and/or biochemistry 

·         College mathematics or equivalent  

·         Graduate statistics: It is required for MSN with a specialization in Nurse Anesthesia applicants to complete three quarter hours or two semester hours of graduate level statistics prior to admittance to the Nurse Anesthesia program. The statistics course must be equivalent to the GR847 Applied Statistics course offered at Clarkson College. A course with a dual-level designation will only be considered if there is transcript evidence that the course was taken at the graduate level. A course taken as part of an undergraduate program or at the undergraduate level will not satisfy this requirement. 

·         Complete the application packet and submit it to the Office of Enrollment Services as listed in detail below. 

  

Admission Process 

Step 1: Complete the Clarkson College Online Application.  

  

Step 2: Complete Application Packet. 

Submit the following items to the Office of Enrollment Services in a 9" x 13" envelope.

·         Non-refundable application fee: $35 fee that should be payable to Clarkson College.  

·         Signed form: Acknowledgement of Accreditation Status form (PDF format)  

·         Completed form: Assessment of Critical Care Skills form (PDF format)  

·         References: Print the reference forms provided below (in PDF format). Indicate on these forms your decision to waive your right of access to this reference before it is distributed. Supply an envelope with each form to each reference. Your references should seal the completed form in the envelope and place their signature across the sealed flap. The sealed envelope should be returned to you, and you are to place the unopened reference envelopes in the application packet. Opened reference letters will not be considered. 

·         Nursing Director/Manager Recommendation form (PDF format)  

·         Critical Care Coordinator/Shift Supervisor Recommendation form (PDF format)  

·         Completed Essay: Essay specifications  

·         Current curriculum vitae: Indicate critical care nursing experience and length, any professional or scholastic honors, listing all colleges attended and degrees obtained  

·         Photocopy of current RN license 

·         Photocopy of ACLS certification card: While ACLS certification is not required for the application process, it is required to be completed prior to beginning the program.   

·         Photocopies of other certifications: Examples include PALS, CCRN or any other certifications 

·         Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores, if applicable: Provide official satisfactory scores, minimum of 600, from the TOEFL. This step is appropriate for applicants whose native language is not English 

  

Step 3: Official Transcripts.  

Please have the following items sent directly to the Clarkson College Office of Enrollment Services: 

·         One official transcript from each college/university attended 

·         Official transcript verification of classes in which you are currently enrolled.
