application received for the Nurse Anesthesia program will be reviewed for the
class starting fall 2011. Due to an outstanding applicant response, the fall
2010 class is full. All applications for the class starting fall 2011 must be
submitted by Nov. 1, 2010.
Admission Criteria
Criteria
for admission into Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Nurse
Anesthesia program include:
·
Provide
proof for fulfillment of the legal requirements to practice professional
nursing (RN) in Nebraska or another state.
·
Possess
a Bachelor's degree with a major in nursing from a program accredited by the
American Association of Colleges of Nursing-Commission on Collegiate Nursing
Education (AACN CCNE) or possess a Bachelor's degree in a bio-medical science.
·
Attain
an undergraduate grade-point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.0 scale, which
demonstrates ability to do graduate work.
·
Complete
at least one year of recent full-time critical care nursing experience (post-ADN
or post-BSN) as an RN prior to application to the program. Acceptable critical
care nursing experience as an RN post-degree includes:

Intensive
Care Unit (ICU)
·
Medical
Intensive Care Unit (MICU)
·
Neonatal
Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
·
Pediatric
Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
·
Surgical
Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
·
Cardiac
Care Unit (CCU).
·
Satisfactory
completion of all nursing course prerequisites at the junior college or
university level.
·
International
applicants must obtain a Nebraska Registered Nurse license prior to program
enrollment.
·
Mastered
levels of computer competency must be achieved in preparation for successful navigation
of the MSN program.
·
Demonstrated
ability in science and mathematics with a letter grade of C or better for
courses containing the following areas of concentration completed at the
collegiate level. The basic sciences course prerequisite criteria include:

Anatomy

Pathophysiology

Physical
assessment

Pharmacology
·
Microbiology
·
Inorganic
chemistry, organic chemistry, and/or biochemistry
·
College
mathematics or equivalent
·
Graduate
statistics: It is required for MSN with a specialization in Nurse Anesthesia
applicants to complete three quarter hours or two semester hours of graduate
level statistics prior to admittance to the Nurse Anesthesia program.
The statistics course
must be equivalent to the GR847 Applied Statistics course offered at Clarkson
College. A course with a dual-level designation will only be considered if
there is transcript evidence that the course was taken at the graduate level. A
course taken as part of an undergraduate program or at the undergraduate level
will not satisfy this requirement.

curriculum vitae: Indicate critical care nursing experience and length, any professional

of ACLS and PALS certification card: While ACLS certification is
not required for the application process, it is required to be completed prior
to beginning the program.

Photocopies
of other certifications: Examples include BLS, CCRN, TNS, and/or ATLS.

Test of English as a Foreign
Language (TOEFL) scores, if applicable: Provide official satisfactory scores, minimum of 600,
from the TOEFL. This step is appropriate for applicants whose native language
is not English.
