Upon accreditation, the program will take 30 months to complete, starting with a 12 month didactic phase followed by an 18 month clinical phase.

  How many students do you accept each year?
The College will admit 10 students for its first class that is expected to begin Fall 2010. Class size may vary for future classes.

  When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is Dec. 4, 2009. All application materials must be postmarked by this date to be considered for admittance to the program following accreditation. As we are conducting the first round of interviews, we reserve the right to accept new applicants until Fall 2010 matriculation. We encourage interested students to keep their application current throughout the process.

  Does my bachelor’s degree need to be in nursing?
All applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing from a program accredited by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing-Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (AACN CCNE) or possess a bachelor’s degree in a bio-medical science.

  How much RN critical care experience should I have before I submit my application?
Applicants must have completed at least one year of recent, full-time critical care nursing experience (post-ADN or post-BSN) as an RN prior to application to the program. The amount of experience needed to prepare the applicant for success in the anesthesia program varies with each individual and will be assessed during the interview process. Your critical care experience should provide you with the knowledge base and skills set necessary to succeed as a nurse anesthesia student and ultimately a CRNA.

Acceptable areas for critical care nursing experience as an RN post-degree includes: Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Cardiac Care Unit (CCU).

  If I don’t have my course prerequisites or bachelor’s degree completed by the application deadline, but will before the start of classes, can I apply?
Yes. You may apply if all course prerequisites and your bachelor’s degree will be completed before classes start.

  How many letters of recommendation are required?
Two letters of recommendation attesting to the applicant’s capacity and potential for graduate study are required for admission. Visit the Admission Criteria and Process page for these recommendation forms.

  Are all applicants invited for interviews?
Admission into our program will be very competitive. All complete applications received by the deadlines will be reviewed by the admissions committee. The committee will thoroughly evaluate all aspects of the application and interview offers will be extended to those applicants the committee feels are most qualified.

  Do I need to have CCRN certification before applying?
A CCRN certification is not required but many have found it useful in preparation for nurse anesthesia education.

  Will I be able to work during the program?
Outside employment is discouraged because of the intense nature of the program.

  What is the tuition for this program?
Tuition for the Nurse Anesthesia program will be competitive with similar programs in the region.

  Is financial aid available?
Financial aid is available from the Federal Government in the form of student loans. Details can be found on the Financial Aid page.

  If I am accepted for admission to the program, will I be required to make a deposit to hold my position?
Yes. Applicants who are offered a position in the program will be required to make a non-refundable $100 enrollment fee to hold their position.

  Will I have to travel during the program?
During the first year of the program classes are held at Clarkson College. Each student will then be assigned to a primary clinical site in or near the Omaha metropolitan area. The student will complete at least one two-month rural rotation during the 18-month clinical phase of the program. We intend to work with each student to develop a clinical experience that best meets their individual needs.

  Am I required to carry health or malpractice insurance during the program?
Yes, you will be required to carry your own heath insurance while you are in the program. Liability insurance will be provided by the College while you are in clinical courses.
