Paid Dining Assistant Competency Evaluation

Students completing a Paid Dining Assistant course must demonstrate (written and/or preformed) competency of the following tasks and duties required for successful completion of the program:

  1. Feeding techniques;
  2. Assistance with feeding and hydration;
  3. Communication and interpersonal skills;
  4. Appropriate responses to resident behavior;
  5. Safety and emergency procedures;
  6. Infection control;
  7. Resident rights including but not limited to those set forth in 175 NAC 12-006.005;
  8. Recognizing changes in residents that are inconsistent with their normal behavior and the importance of reporting these changes to the supervisory nurse.
  9. Special needs of residents in relation to feeding who may have additional medical conditions;
  10. Abuse and neglect.

 

Minimally all participants are evaluated on the following skills:

·    Handwashing

·    Removing Disposable Gloves

·    Abdonimal Thrust Maneuver

·    Assisting the Dependent Patient with Dining

·    Dining Experience Preparation

Additional skills that may be evaluated:

·    Basic First Aid & Emergency Care Procedures:

1.      Burns and Scalds

2.      Seizures

3.      Shortness of Breath

4.      Chest Pain

5.      Falls

 

Competency evaluation is preformed by a Registered Nurse (RN).
