Nursing

Opportunities in nursing are abundant in a growing and changing health care industry. For more than a century, the nursing education offered at Clarkson College has and continues to prepare students for a rewarding career in their chosen field of health care.

The Nursing program at Clarkson College includes Practical Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and Post-Master's certificate options.   

The Practical Nursing (PN) program, offered on a part-time basis and very convenient for students who are currently employed, will lead to a diploma in Practical Nursing and eligibility to write the PN licensure exam (NCLEX-PN).

You can choose to complete the Clarkson College undergraduate Nursing program as a BSN student (four-year college schedule), LPN to BSN student (for individuals who are currently licensed as a licensed practical nurse), or as a RN to BSN student (for individuals who are currently licensed as a registered nurse and have either an Associate's degree in Nursing or a three-year Nursing diploma).

For those who have already earned a Master of Science degree in Nursing, Post-Master's certificate options are available for students interested in Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult–Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education and Nursing Health Care Administration. The RN to MSN program is designed for individuals who are currently licensed as a registered nurse (RN) and have either an Associate's degree in Nursing or a three-year Nursing diploma.

Nursing education at Clarkson College is a formal process involving relevant activities, individualized experiences and evaluation of the subsequent outcomes. Because nursing education is best achieved within the totality of the human experience, we ground our programs through the study of the humanities and sciences.

By offering four different education levels in Nursing—Practical, Bachelor’s, Master's and Post-Master’s—we serve you at all points in the process of nursing education, from the entry-level practitioner to the professional seeking the highest levels of advancement. And because of the various levels in our programs, we facilitate students' progress from one to the next.

We see nursing as the extension and science of human interactions related to the health needs of people and society. We believe that nursing is the human science of caring, whereby caring is the nurturing energy present in empowering relationships. Health encompasses the human processes of readiness, receptivity, resiliency and resourcefulness in dynamic interaction with the environment. Nursing science is the incorporation of science with evidence-based nursing practice to understand people and their health care—practiced by caring professionals who are responsible citizens, committed to excellence and lifelong improvement in the field.
