Basic & Advanced Life Support Courses

When a patient’s life is on the line, be ready with the best training in basic and advanced life support.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

In American Heart Association-approved Basic Life Support (BLS) classes for health care providers (CPR), you will learn how to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies such as heart attack, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest and foreign-body airway obstruction (choking)—as well as how to recognize heart attacks and strokes in adults and breathing difficulties in children. Training will give you CPR skills for victims of all ages.

BLS Course Information
The complete/initial course length is 6-8 hours. The refresher/renewal course length is 3-4 hours. Classes are offered on selected Saturdays and weekdays (morning, afternoon and evening classes).

BLS textbooks are available at Clarkson College 7-10 days before attending the class. Textbooks may also be purchased from the following AHA distributors: Channing Bete Company, Laerdal Medical Corporation and Worldpoint ECC, Inc.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

The American Heart Association's Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course is designed for health care providers who direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether inside or outside of a hospital setting.

In addition to basic life support CPR for patient survival, you will learn the integration of BLS with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions—including effective team interaction and communication. Simulated clinical scenarios provide the opportunity for active, hands-on participation in a team setting. The course will lead you to proficiency in a variety of life-threatening clinical situations, including cardiac arrest, ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes.

ACLS Course Information
ACLS textbooks are available 2-3 weeks before class. Textbooks may also be purchased from the following AHA distributors: Channing Bete Company, Laerdal Medical Corporation and Worldpoint ECC, Inc. Register for the ACLS course by calling 402.552.3396 or 800.647.5500.
