Frequently Asked Questions
Who can take the Microsoft Office training classes?
Any part-time or full-time employee of The Nebraska Medical Center, with their manager’s approval, may participate in the training.
What is the charge?
There is no charge to the employee. The cost center will be charged if the employee fails to attend, or does not cancel 48 hours or more before the start of the scheduled class.
Where are the classes held?
Classes are held in the Clarkson College Technical Training Lab, which is in the Ed-Tech Center located at 121 S. 44 St. (not at the main Clarkson College building). This is a yellow brick, apartment-style building, on the northeast corner of 44 and Douglas Streets. The Technical Training Lab is located in Suite 003 on the ground floor. Entrance is on the south side facing the parking lot. Employees must park in their designated employee parking lots, as there is no visitor parking at this facility.
What classes are offered?
Microsoft Office 2007 courses are currently available in Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Attendees should be aware of the fact that the courses cover the newer 2007 version of Microsoft Office products.
How does someone know which course to sign up for?
It is important for the employee, working with their manager, to determine which level of training they need (beginning, intermediate or advanced). Specific skills are covered in each level. Objectives and skill lists for each course are available online.
How does an employee register?
Online registration for employees is available. The courses are listed by date. Click on the course and follow the registration prompts. Course information and objectives are provided on each listing. Once the registration is submitted, an e-mail is sent to the manager asking to approve or decline the registration. Once the manger has approved the registration the employee is notified of their course confirmation.
Why do I need my employee number and where can I find it?
We request your employee number in order to verify that you are an employee of The Nebraska Medical Center as well as distinguish between many employees with the same name. In the era of identity theft, it is important not to utilize someone’s Social Security number as a means of personal identification. Employees may find their employee number on their pay stub within the Lawson system.
Why would a class be full?
Class size is limited because this is a hands-on course using a computer lab and limited seating is available. You actually work on the computer and follow the lesson as the instructor demonstrates it. Classes will be offered on a regular ongoing basis, so there will be many optional dates and times to choose from.
May an employee register for one of each class?
Yes, with his or her manager’s approval.
