How much does the Nurse Aide course cost?
The course fee is $450. This includes the textbook and the state written and clinical competency exams.
Do I need a high school diploma or GED?
No. Understand, however, that there is a great deal of reading and studying involved with this class. A person needs to maintain an 80 percent average to pass the course.
Does Clarkson College offer financial aid?
We do not because it is not a college credit course, although many community organizations and state back-to-work agencies do offer assistance. Because their requirements differ, it is up to the individual to research what is available for him or her.
How long does it take to complete?
Class dates and times vary. It is important to consult a class schedule for details. Daytime classes take approximately three to four weeks to complete. Evening classes take approximately six to seven weeks to complete.
What are the prerequisites?
The requirements to participate are that a person be 16 years of age and be able to speak and understand English. Individuals are required to have proof of a current TB skin test prior to clinical session and are to be healthy and able to lift 50 pounds.
Do I need to buy a special uniform for clinical?
Yes. In Omaha you will need navy blue scrubs for clinical sessions.
Do I have to go elsewhere to take the state competency exams?
No. Both the state of Nebraska written competency examination and the skills examinations are offered at the end of each Clarkson College Nurse Aide course and are included in the course fees.
Where can I work when I am finished?
There are jobs available in nursing homes, assisted living centers, group homes, hospitals, clinics and home health agencies.
Do you help with job placement?
We can provide you with information regarding The Nebraska Medical Center (University and Clarkson Hospitals), but it is up to you to apply for the jobs you are interested in.
