Clarkson College is committed to providing equal access for students with disabilities by recognizing an individual’s functional limitations that may create barriers to his/her educational and college life experience. As part of this commitment, the College provides reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified students with disabilities in compliance with the civil rights laws of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
To obtain accommodations, students must contact the accommodations coordinator via e-mail or call 402.552.3034 to arrange an initial meeting in the accommodations coordinator office, located on the lower level of Clarkson College. At this meeting, the student will have the opportunity to discuss his/her accommodation needs, identify functional limitations and provide supporting documentation. Conditions that may cause limitations include cognitive, physical or psychological impairments.
Documentation from a licensed health care or social work professional may be required to assist in determining reasonable accommodations by providing evidence of a disability’s current functional impact.
Reasonable accommodations are adjustments in the learning environment that permit students with disabilities to compete on equal footing with their peers at Clarkson College. The accommodations modify non-essential elements of academic programs.
Examples of reasonable accommodations may include:
Once reasonable accommodations are identified and warranted, the student will be informed and receive a Statement of Eligibly (SOE) from the Accommodations Coordinator listing their accommodations. To utilize approved accommodation, the student is responsible for presenting the SOE to appropriate faculty, advisors and/or testing personnel so that arrangements can be made to implement the accommodations in a timely and confidential manner. This process enables students to control how they use their accommodations.
All documentation of a disability is treated in a confidential manner and in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
