Omicron Epsilon Dinner Program: Prenatal Alcohol Exposure

Omicron Epsilon Members and Midwest Regional Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Training Center faculty:

·         Christine Ellett, BSN, RN The Nebraska Medical Center

·         JoAnn Acierno MSN, RN Assistant Professor Nursing, Clarkson College

 

Purpose

This program will provide information on the health care response to Prenatal Alcohol Exposure regarding identification, assessment and intervention.

 

Program Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

·         Examine the foundations of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) through the ages.

·         Define alcohol screening and the five drinking patterns.

·         Illustrate the models of addiction.

·         Describe the biomedical effects of alcohol on brain development.

·         Identify Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) screening methods, diagnosis and treatment.

 

Credits

Nursing: Code #NE06-09C14-36 Iowa Provider #345 2.0 contact hours awarded.

Clarkson College is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Nebraska Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation,

Mental Health Practitioners: This offering meets the continuing education criteria for 2.0 clock hours for Nebraska Licensed Mental Health Practitioners and Iowa Behavioral Sciences practitioners.

Education Hours: 2.0 Education hours.

 

Clarkson College Office of Professional Development assigns education hours based on 60 minutes of didactic or clinical instruction for each educational activity. Participants may use these for their professional continuing education hours and toward re-licensure and/or certification if so approved within the standards and guidelines of their discipline.
