RT
MI STUDENTS PREPARE FOR BOARD EXAMS AT CONFERENCE
Omaha, Neb., May 7, 2008: Clarkson College radiologic technology
(RT) and medical imaging (MI) students prepared for boards at 23rd
annual Student and Radiographer's Seminar and Educator's Conference in March.
"Over
the course of four days, they were required to attend 18 hours of educational
seminars," said Jodi Neff RT instructor. "I heard from most of them that they
had a great time meeting new people from all over the country while learning
a great deal."
Twenty
students from the RT/MI program attended the conference which was held in
Atlanta, Ga.
"Authors
of books, educators and lawyers enlightened us on topics from film critique
to physics and ethics," said Meredith Smith a RT MI student at Clarkson
College. "Also there was a Student Bee where five students from each
participating school had to answer questions in front of a panel of judges."
"This is an individual contest where the
student is asked a random question from a board of judges," explains Neff. "If
they answer correct, they move on, if not they rejoin the audience. One of
our students made it through the fourth round. Above all, this was a great
board review for the students, as they were able to hear questions like the
ones they will see on the boards."
"This
was a great way to refresh on a lot of important information we had already
learned," Smith said.
Neff
explains all of the students also took part in a mock board exam.
"This
exam is set up just as if they were taking boards," Neff said. "Our students
did outstanding on the test. Most if not all of them said they feel more
confident taking boards now that they know what the experience will be like."
"Not
only was it a great review, it helped students identify what areas they are
strongest in and in what areas they needed more help," said Smith.
"It
was a great experience to bond with classmates and meet a lot of new people
along with learning about the field of radiology," said Dana Wallace a
Clarkson College RT MI student.
Smith
explains that students did fundraising in an effort to raise money for the
trip.
"RT
students did several activities around school including selling Otis
Spunkmeyer cookie dough, Butterbraids and having a taco feed.
