Here's what you should know:

Updates as of March 23, 2026:
Mainline Track Construction and Rail Storage

Overnight closures of Farnam (40th to 44th) and 42nd Streets (Douglas to Harney) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly during the welding process. Drivers should follow the detour to the hospital during this time. Welding is anticipated to be complete by Monday, March 30.

Streetcar construction will commence in Blackstone (40 to 37 Streets) the week of March 23. Farnam will be westbound only from 33 to 40 Streets for the duration of the construction.

Updates as of October 10, 2025:
2nd Floor Ramp Closing

Construction begins on the ramp connecting the Main Building to the South Building. Access between the buildings on the 2nd floor (near the library and second-floor science lab) will be closed until further notice.

  • The Skywalk and South Building elevator remain accessible.
  • The ramp connecting the South Building and the Main Building will be closed.

Alternate Routes Between Buildings:

  • From the Main Building to the Commons Building:
    • The most direct route is outside across 42nd Street. Be sure to follow all traffic laws and use official city crosswalks.
    • As weather changes, foot traffic is recommended to remain indoors. Take the Main Building elevators to the Lower Level, follow signage to the South Building elevator, and proceed to the 2nd floor for Skywalk access to the Commons.
  • From the Commons Building to the Main Building via the Skywalk:
    Signage will direct individuals to take the South Building elevator to the Lower Level. Individuals then should follow signs to the Main Building elevators.

Updates as of October 1, 2025:
Main Building Front Entrance Changes

  • Beginning the week of October 1, the main entrance will be temporarily relocated to the door facing 42nd Street (see image).
  • All foot traffic will be redirected to this new entrance.
  • A fence will be installed around the area as construction of The Link begins.  
    This area will connect the Main and South Buildings.
  • Howard Hall and the Student Center are accessible via the west-facing door on 42nd Street or via the east-facing door on 41st Street. Both require a badge to enter.
  • The 42nd Street door will remain accessible via card access for students, faculty, and staff with 24/7 building entry privileges.
  • Deliveries can continue to be accepted at this entrance on a trial basis.
    If this becomes too congested, we will re-route deliveries to another location.

Updates as of July 10, 2025:

  • Visitor and Handicap parking has been moved to make room for construction.
    See image and map to the right.
  • Design and programming meetings continue for various spaces. Some spaces in the South building will not be accessible during construction efforts.
  • Temporary directional signage has been installed.
  • The Main Building main entrance will soon move to the door facing 42nd street.
    Work is being done to provide secure entry and storage for the first floor staff.
  • You may notice the closure of a few pathways. Follow detours for safe passage.

Professional Development & Community Learners

If you are participating in a Professional Development course which includes time on campus, you will be provided instructions about where to park and what entrance to use. Please follow the instructions provided and reach out to our Professional Development team with questions: 402.552.3396 or 402.552.6148.
