Degree Overview

The Clarkson College Certificate in Health Information Management (HIM) option is offered fully online and is designed for individuals who either wish to enter the medical billing and coding field or for those who currently work in hospitals, clinics, medical offices or insurance organizations and would like to obtain a coding credential.

No prerequisites are required upon admission into the Certificate in HIM program, and you are able to enroll in the fall, spring or summer. Throughout the program, you will learn to use classification systems and navigate the revenue cycle. At the completion of the HIM certificate program, you will be prepared to sit for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) or Certified Computing Professional (CPC) certification exams.

With a certificate in HIM, you become eligible for more advanced degree opportunities. At Clarkson College, we offer both an Associate of Science in Health Information Technology degree and a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management degree—both online and designed for medical coders and health information technicians wishing to advance within the HIM profession.

Advanced Standing Credit

Clarkson College applicants and current students may inquire about the possibility of receiving credit for previous life and/or work experience(s) per Academic Policy AA-47. Please reach out to an academic advisor or your program director if you have questions.
